Stress eating or emotional eating is a subconscious urge to eat when you really don’t need food. Trying to stop yourself from stress eating is almost impossible through will power alone and this is because the subconscious processes of your brain are more powerful than your conscious desires.

You see years ago, before we understood about the brains’ responses to stress, we were guided to losing weight by following diets. This became a multi-billion dollar industry that gained such momentum that it still exists today.

Not long-term anyway and the reason is that most diets are unsustainable – especially the ‘fad’ diets.
So what about the diets that give you a ‘plan’ such as controlling portion sizes or calorie counting?
These are fine to a point because understanding which foods are best for your body and have greater amounts of fat and sugar and so forth is a good thing; but you are still focusing a lot upon what you are eating and when.
Counting calories and watching what you eat keeps you focused upon food rather than letting eating be a natural and easy event in the day. Besides it isn’t addressing the underlying urges to eat when you know you don’t really need to.
