About Janice Bowles
Hypnotherapist, EFT Practitioner & Confidence Coach
Hello, I’m Janice and thank you for visiting my ‘About Me’ page.
I have long had a passion for helping people overcome the obstacles that keep them stuck so they can move forward with their lives and achieve happiness and well-being.
I also work with my coaching clients in supporting them to gain clarity and take focused action towards their goal achievement. This may be helping them in their business or career and especially where confidence and self-belief hinders progress; I have the ‘tools’ to help them move beyond any negative limitations and towards the success they are seeking.
My training in hypnotherapy began in 1994 and I have been trained by some of the UK’s top hypnotherapy trainers including Valerie Austin, (international trainer, journalist and author of many self-help hypnotherapy books), The Atkinson-Ball College of Hypnotherapy and Hypnothealing (based on Ormond McGill and Dave Elman methods) and The Uncommon Knowledge Diploma Course in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (based on Milton Erikson Theory).
In 2004 I studied EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) or now commonly known as “Tapping” which is based on the Chinese meridian energy system and has been scientifically shown to reduce stress. I have had some fantastic results with clients using this approach.
Other courses and studies include:
- The Rewind Technique for Fears, Phobias, PTSD, Panic ‘Attack’ & Emotional Trauma
- Healing Depression
- Smoking Cessation
- Centerpointe Research Institute’s Life Principals Integration Process Course
- The Sedona Method
- The Emotional Freedom Technique EFT (The Tapping Technique)
- The Keirsey Temperament Theory – Certification
- Equine Behaviour and Human Psychology
- ITEC (International Terapeutic Education Council)
- Therapeutic & Remedial Massage (The London School of Therapeutic Massage)
- Aromatherapy – (Shirley Price School of Aromatherapy)
- Reflexology (Dilworth School of Reflexology)
I don’t use all of these methods in my practise these days, but this is just to show the range of interest and experience that I have gained over many years. In many instances they complement each other and provide me with a wide range of knowledge in the service I offer to my clients.
Over the past 20 years in addition to my private practice I have also provided sessions for:
- Local Adult Education Courses
- Private courses
- ‘MindPower’ sessions for Barclays Bank duration of 18-months, attended by over 2,500 participants
- ‘MindPower’ sessions for The London Business School over similar duration
- Other organizations and local businesses
A Personal Journey
People who know me would say that I am naturally optimistic – a glass half full type! Nevertheless when I became depressed during several years, hypnotherapy was the catalyst in my own healing process. Thereafter I understood the importance of managing the mind rather than allowing the mind to have control! When the mind has control, emotions and thoughts [can] become like a runaway train and triggers stress. Too much prolonged stress will in some instances lead to depression, so it’s helpful to address stress before it reaches this stage.
However in my world nothing goes to waste and there’s always something to learn from our experiences. It provides me with a deeper insight with whatever my clients are presenting and want help with.
Life Before Hypnotherapy & EFT
In 1978 I joined British Caledonian as a ground crew member and later that same year joined British Airways as a Flight Attendant. During my thirteen year career with BA I flew on Trident’s, Boeing 707’s, VC10’s, Tristars, Boeing 747’s, BAC 1-11’s and Boeing 727’s – of course many of these no longer exist!
It was a privilege and an incredible experience to visit so many countries and meet people from a variety of cultures. It was during this time that my interest in personal development grew.
A year or so before leaving British Airways I trained in Reflexology and Therapeutic Massage with The London School of Therapeutic Massage gaining an ITEC (International Therapy Education Council) diploma. The following year I qualified in Aromatherapy with Shirley Price Aromatherapy.
I began my own Reflexology and Aromatherapy practice while working part-time for the airline. In 1991 when I left BA I moved to France to the ski resort of Val Morel where I lived for almost four years and traveled extensively around Europe. I returned to the UK in October 1994 and commenced my Hypnotherapy training and practice.
My personal interests include a passion for animals, nature and the countryside (I am fortunate to live in a beautiful part of Oxfordshire (UK) and I enjoy spending time with family and friends.
I have two furry ‘therapy assistants’ present when my clients visit, named Jessica and Billy. They particularly enjoy hypnosis and flop onto their side with great contentment on their blanket!
